The Axis of Water, which connects the Guadalquivir River with the population centers of La Jarilla and Casavacas, passing through Las Graveras Park and its lake, is one of the major projects of the La Rinconada City Council. It’s supported by the European Union and the Provincial Council of Seville.
This project, which includes the installation of cyclable green paths—an unpaved infrastructure that is more environmentally friendly, shared by both pedestrians and cyclists—, plays an important role in complying with the Strategic Goal 5 of the La Rinconada Urban Agenda: Promote Proximity and Sustainable Mobility.
La Rinconada has a firm commitment to bike lanes and the environment, as some of our goals are promoting sustainable transport, intermodality, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. All of this has been made possible thanks to both the NextGenerationEU funds and the Provincial Council of Seville. At present, this municipality can be proud of having a route of around 40 kilometers, which means almost 1 meter per citizen.
Section 3 is 1,540.99 meters long and extends from the A‑8009 highway (the end of Section 2) to the end of Camino de las Cortillas; while Section 5, which is 1,424.13 meters long, connects the Casavacas lane with El Castellón. It also connects Section 4 of the La Rinconada bike lane with surrounding locations. The latter extends to the riverbank of the Guadalquivir and begins at the end of Section 3, near the Torrepavas Stream, up to the left bank of the Guadalquivir.
The La Rinconada City Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ecological Transition, the Guadalquivir Hydrographic Confederation, and the area's property owners, has guaranteed public access to the maritime‑terrestrial domain from properties bordering the Guadalquivir River. Unfortunately, due to the cold drop event (or DANA, as per its Spanish acronym) that took place on October 29, 2024, which affected the municipality, areas that were meant to be part of Section 4 were damaged. Therefore, an extension of the execution period has been requested to carry out the final work on this section.
Furthermore, a Metropolitan Bike Lane that connects Pago de Enmedio with the Glorieta de los Ferroviarios in San Jerónimo is also under development. A section that is approximately 6.5 kilometers long, of which 3.5 are within the municipality of La Rinconada, has already been completed.
